Ruhrfestspiele 2023 are centered around the motto „Rage and Respect“ (Rage und Respekt). The festival’s unique look had to visualize two contradicting emotions at once. Our idea: utilizing the themes of destruction and repair as a translation of the motto and applying them to the typeset.

The typographic design was realized by first printing out individual letters and crumpling and tearing them by hand, letter by letter. Then, we smoothed out the pieces, realigned them carefully and used colorful tape to fix the gaps.
